Besides energy saving, controllability is the next highly expected feature of LED Lighting over Traditional Lighting. However, such a control aspect seems to be missing in daily applications. Since 2015, we've been developing & marketing Phase Dimmers* and related products to address LED dimming control

Driven by our project field experience, we developed a new type of Tunable White control using Phase Dimming & 0-10V technologies, which gives our Tunable White Controller (DZ1G300TUNE) & Dynamic Lighting Controllers (DZ2G300TUNE_TOGG / _PUSH). It's our goal to lower the technical and costs barriers for different Circadian Lighting or Commercial applications that desire Multi-Purpose Lighting.

SORAA® 12Vac LED Lamps Continuous Quest for Satisfactory Dimming Solution

In the beginning of our video, we announced the exciting news that SORAA had evaluated our DZ3G450DIAL & will be publishing our device into its Product Compatibility table. We then move on to share our latest finding of using a 12V electronic transformer that’s on SORAA’s Product Compatibility list to achieve competing Deep Dimming performance with a 12Vac LED MR16 against the Constant Current version of the MR16 lamp, which we illustrated in the earlier video.
12Vac LED MR16 lamps are much more popular than the Constant Current (CC) version and they are supplied by many manufacturers in the market. As explained before, the Backward Compatibility issue has been a bottleneck for the 12Vac LED MR16 adoption and often ends-up with mediocre lighting effects. With the introduction of a dimmer, the situation gets more complicated for Dimmable LED MR16 application.
In this video, we set-up both types of LED MR16 lamps with the same lighting specifications (2700K, CRI 95) from SORAA and have the lamps dimmed by our DZ3G450DIAL simultaneously. Keeping the Constant Current LED MR16 lamps (Model # SM16C-CC1-36D-923-03) together with the 10W HEP Constant Current LED Driver (Model # LMTC10W350-Z) on one side as our baseline, we illustrate very different dimming performance by first using the OSRAM ET-30 & change to the BLV 45600201 together with the 12Vac version of LED MR16 lamps (Model # SM16-09-36D-927-03-S3). Note that both Electronic Transformers are selected from the SORAA’s Compatibility table.
Compared to the CC version, the OSRAM ET-30 enables dimming to a low level, but with a much shorter travel. On the other hand, the BLV 45600201 shows a Deep Dimming performance compatible to the CC version. Since we only change the Electronic Transformer in the setup, we can see the contribution of different transformers to the overall dimming effect!
As the 12Vac Electronic Transformer can equally be applied to AR111 lamps, we now have Satisfactory Phase Dimming Solution corresponding to SORAA’s Professional Lamp series, covering products with different input power requirements ranging from 12Vac, Constant Current Drive or Direct Connection, such as GU10.
